On August 11, 1966, the Knoxville News-Sentinel reported, "Several area radio stations have joined the Beatles 'ban wagon.' Station WGAT at Gate City, Va., WKIN in Kingsport, WMCH in Church Hill, WBBI in Abingdon, Va., and WMEV in Marion, Va., have taken the Beatles off the air."
