KSEL banned The Beatles!
The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported on August 4, 1966, that "KSEL announced this morning that a telephone survey would be made of its listeners between 7 and 9 p.m. today to get their reaction. Station officials said if listeners indicated a desire for a ban on Beatle records, the station policy would be fixed accordingly."
While that's not conclusive, a Beatles fan had a letter published in the same newspaper on August 28, 1966: "This is what I think about 'Beatle Bans': the whole thing was pretty hair-raising, but I think people (like those on KSEL) carried it a little too far. I don't mean that we should stand by when someone says they're more popular that Jesus; but when you don't know that much about it, you shouldn't raise cain until all the facts are out." The letter suggests that KSEL did, indeed, ban The Beatles.
